Our History

mary_potter1Founded in England in 1877, by Venerable Mary Potter, the first Irish community of the Little Company of Mary was formed in 1888 with the opening of St. John’s Hospital in Limerick.

From the first beginnings of the Little Company of Mary, Irish women committed themselves to the vision of the founder, and have sought to create a world in which every human person – and particularly those who are dying – receive the care and love they need to become whole in body, mind and spirit. Prayer and care for the sick and dying permeates all our ministries.Milford House, is an eighteenth century dower house built by the Monsell family and acquired by the LCM in 1923 for use as a nursing home and novitiate. This stately home has now been converted into an administrative and educational resource centre for Milford Care Complex, while still preserving its unique architectural features.
