About Us

The Little Company of Mary is an International Marian Congregation of Sisters, founded by Venerable Mary Potter on the 2nd July 1877 in Nottingham, England. The name for the congregation was taken from the little group who stayed with Mary on Calvary.

Our Mission is expressed through prayer and care for the suffering, sick and dying as we seek to offer compassion, healing and hope to the mind body and spirit.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Our Foundress Mary Potter developed a spirituality based on St. Louis Marie de Montfort’s ‘True Devotion’ to Our Lady and incorporated it into our founding charism. The vision was to follow the self - giving love of Jesus in union with Our Lady’s maternal Heart and in this way bring God’s love to the world. We share in the mission of Jesus.

Mary Potter's Life

We are guided by the teachings of our Foundress Mary Potter who established the ministry in 1877.

Mary Potter was drawn to a particular spirituality and vocation to found a Religious Congregation.

Our Ministry

Mary Potter did not limit the Sisters to any one particular Ministry. We are open to new initiatives to meet emerging needs and be a healing presence in our world.

We are involved in a variety of Ministries for example prayer, leadership and administration, parish ministry, chaplaincies to hospital, hospice, prison, spiritual direction, vocation ministry, counselling, adults ministry, International missionary work and reaching out to refugees and the homeless.

The Sisters who are retired continue to live life as fully as possible in their home, by being cared for by our loving staff with dignity and respect.

prayer

“In Mary, Mother of Jesus, we find a model of discipleship that leads us to a generous self-giving, a discipleship rooted in prayer that leads to action.”

- Mary Potter

The Sisters are inspired to be companions of Mary, Mother of God, to be with suffering as she was by her prayer and presence.
